Hall Drafting & Design Philosophy

We at Hall Drafting & Design, have recognized that going through the house design process is really made up of three fairly distinct stages.

First, there is the plan design, or plan development stage. This stage has two rather distinct elements to it also but basically remains as an integrated whole. We begin by working together to come up with a floor plan that encompasses all the needs and desires for how your family lives. It is desirable to incorporate the elements of the plan to flow with your lifestyle. After a 2-dimensional plan is designed we need to move to the 3-dimensional aspects to determine the style and look of the home. This process takes into account the heights of the ceilings and incorporates the style and ‘look’ that you are desiring, both inside and outside of the home. This whole first phase can be decided on in a matter of days or sometimes this process can be quite extensive.

Second, is the preliminary plan stage. The is where we work up the floor plan drawings, exterior elevations, foundation plan, the site plan and enough technical details for you to get pricing, bids and estimates. If you are a homeowner, it is our belief that it is good to pause here for you to get established with your contractor that will build the house and to get him and his knowledge involved in the structural design portion. Having been a contractor for a few decades we recognize that every builder has their own preferences for doing certain things, based on their experience. It is our desire to take that experience and wisdom into account and make the plans reflect how he/she will actually build the house.

Thirdly, there is the final permit set of documents stage. In this phase, after all the changes and modifications have been made to the plan, we set to work to produce all the technical drawings, notes, diagrams and schedules needed to be on the plan to satisfy whichever building department your home is to be built in. This is when we will obtain any additional input needed such as structural engineering, landscape design, interior design, or any other technical input that the plan, or the site, would call for, if any.

Finally, with the completed plan documents in hand you are ready to submit for a building permit. Even though this now falls into the realm of construction and is past the designing phase, we will always be here to assist with anything that you would need. Be it a small change or additional information on a specific item. It is our desire to be side by side with you till you are comfortably moved into your gorgeous new home.
